Which is the nearest airport I should choose to fly to?
Cheerful Grant airport at Dehradun is the closest airport to Rishikesh which is roughly 35 kilometers away. Prominent aircrafts like Air India, Spice Jet, and Jet Airways often have daily flights from New Delhi. When you arrive at the airport, you can decide on an ordinary taxi or bus service which is easily accessible from Dehradun to Rishikesh. The second closest international airport for Rishikesh is in New Delhi which is well-associated with various cities across the globe.
How can I reach Rishikesh from Delhi and how much does it cost?
Delhi airport to Rishikesh by car is a 6 hours journey. We have a transportation package for US$ 150 which will cover your airport pick-up, transfer from Delhi to Rishikesh (by car) and after completion of the course transfer back from Rishikesh to Delhi. One way transportation i.e. Delhi airport to Rishikesh can also be availed for US$ 75. In case, your flight arrives late night and you want to stay overnight in Delhi, airport pick-up cost will be US$ 25 and a reasonably good accommodation at a hotel in Delhi can be arranged for US$ 40 or 50. Our travel arrangements are executed under the supervision of professionals and we are always ready with a back-up plan, in case of emergencies. Another good option is to travel by train (airport to New Delhi train station by car, then by train to Haridwar and from Haridwar to Rishikesh by car). Travel by bus is quite cheap but a bit inconvenient for first time visitors. Cheap hotels can also be found in Delhi (Main Bazar, Paharganj area) for USD 10~20. From Delhi airport to Paharganj can be reached by airport metro express in less than 20 minutes and it costs less than US$ 2
Is travelling in Rishikesh alone safe?
Yes, it is safe to travel in Rishikesh without any company as people around are friendly and helpful and many tourists travel alone here. It might be a little different experience altogether if one is travelling to India for the first time.
Will you handle travel arrangements for me once I arrive in India?
Yes, with advanced notice we will arrange transportation for you to Rishikesh directly from the airport, bus or train station. Upon arriving in Rishikesh we will help you with directions for walking a short distance to our school
Is the Food served is vegetarian?
We provide sattvic food which is 100% vegetarian, if you are a vegan, you should inform the school in advance so that special care could be taken.
I am diabetic/celiac intolerant/gluten intolerant/kidney diseases, if I need some special diet would it be provided?
Yes, you will be taken well care of, we will provide the food according to your needs.
Is the drinking water at school clean?
There is filtered water provided in school which is available 24/7
Can the students use phones in school?
Yes, students can use cell phones but not in the classrooms.
Do you have Wifi facility at the school?
Yes, we do have Wifi facility at our school. Students are allowed to access the wifi.
Do you have air conditioners available at the dormitory during summer?
Yes, we do have Air Conditioners at the dormitory, available at extra charges.
I am on prescribed medication. Will I get the same facilities and medication at the hospitals in India in case of emergency?
Yes, definitely you will get the same facilities in India like your home country, as India also has a western systems at the hospitals like the overseas.
What if I fall Ill during the course?
If you get sick during the course, we would provide the best first aid service possible at the immediate time, further, we would help you to get transferred in a hospital or clinic whichever required based on your health issue.
Are the areas of retreats prone to Dengue or Malaria?
Our retreat areas are not prone to Dengue or Malaria, so there is no need to get any extra vaccinations or medications, however mosquito repellent creams are recommended.
Is the food in india favourable to a sensitive stomach?
We have taken extra care to get the food prepared which is favourable to a sensitive stomach as well. Also, the food at restaurants in Rishikesh is good for people from overseas. However, if somebody has a sensitive stomach we would suggest you to avoid street food.
What is the limit of students in each class?
The limit of one batch is 15-20 students at max.
What is the dress code for classes?
There is no specific dress code for classes. One should wear comfortable clothes like lower and T-shirt in which students can stretch their body completely.
Do students need to get their own Yoga mats?
Not necessarily, one can bring their Yoga mat if they wish to. They can also buy it from the outside market.
Can pregnant ladies do the course?
The 200, 300 &500 hours course is too intense to be pursued by any pregnant woman, but we have introduced a Maternal Yoga course specially for expecting ladies.
When do we have an off from school?
You have off on Sundays so that the students can explore the city and do adventures as well.
If someday I am not able to attend the class will it be possible for me to do so?
Yes, in case or any emergency or health issues one can skip the class but they shall inform the faculty well in advance about their absentee.
Can partners do the same course at the same time?
Yes, partners can do the same course at the same time.
I have no experience in Yoga before. Will I be eligible to do the YTTC?
Yes, anyone is eligible to do the YTTC as we teach everything from the beginning.
Are the teachers qualified?
All the teachers at school are well qualified and experienced.
Will I have a problem in communicating? As my first language is not english.
No, language will not be a barrier for you as lot many students come from different parts of the world and english is their second language as well. The course is easily understandable and teachers will help you at any point. Also, if a students wants they can bring their own translator.
Do I have to read anything before joining the course?
Not necessarily, but one should definitely read the information given on our website i.e maharishiyigapeeth.org before joining the course.
Arrival & Departure
In order to attend the orientation program, one should arrive at least a day before starting of the course. On the first day at 10:30 am the Course will start with yoga ritual. On last day of the course, graduation ceremony takes place and it finishes by 11:30 am, therefore, departure should be planned one day after completion of the course.
How will this course help me to become a Yoga teacher?
This Course will help you become a Yoga teacher depending on your hard work and abilities. One must pass the final examination and the viva to become a certified Yoga Trainer.
Does the school provides Yoga Alliance certification? Is the certification valid overseas?
Yes, Ashta Siddhi Yoga does provide The Yoga Alliance Certification and this certification is valid anywhere in the world.
Does One need to clear the exam in order to get the Yoga Alliance certification?
Yes, One needs to clear the exam as well as the viva to complete the course. However, the certification will also depend upon the student’s behaviour, attendance in class.
Will I be able to teach yoga anywhere in the world after doing the course?
Yes, you can teach Yoga anywhere in the world after doing the course. You will get a Yoga Alliance certificate which is valid anywhere around the globe.
Which kind odf visa should I apply for?
Students should apply for tourist visa as it is easy and granted from indian embassy shortly, purpose of visit in india should be yoga retreat or ayurveda retreats. Students may give our school address as well as contact number as an indian reference. Contact details of Indian embassy in your country can be found. In general, visa expiry date is counted from the day visa is issued. Please verify it with the concerned embassy. Try to apply for your visa at least 2 or 3 weeks before your travel date.
What things are needed to be brought if one is traveling from abroad?
Most of the items which are daily needs can be bought from the market near to the school. However, you can bring the items which are your utmost needs. Like your toiletries, pspecific personal care items etc.
Can a student make changes in the booking once its done?
Yes, one can only shift their course date in case of any emergency and join the other scheduled batch. The advance fee is non-refundable in any case.
Can the payment be done from a credit card?
We accept credit card payments for booking amounts. Rest payments can be done by cash. If a student wants to do credit card payment they can do it at the additional charge of
What will be the extra charges for accommodation and food?
There are no extra charges for food and accommodation. It will be included in the fees. However, the fees vary at the accommodation depending on your choice of private bedroom or sharing bedroom.
How is the weather in Rishikesh all through the year?
December-January-February are the coldest months in Rishikesh, the temperature goes down to 15-26 C, and we do not provide room heaters, so if you are pursuing the course during December-early March we recommend you to bring warm clothes.
April to August – hot & rainy weather – We recommend light cotton clothes as the temperature can go high up to 40 degrees. Rainy season ends in September Still if you are joining the course during this month umbrella/raincoats are recommended.
October to March – weather in Rishikesh varies from pleasant to cold and woolen clothes, jackets etc. are recommended. The temperature is on average is around 32-33 C.
What Yoga styles are taught in the school?
We have 200, 300& 500 Hours Teacher Training Courses which are all multi-style courses that are qualified by the Yoga Alliance, USA. The students after completing the course will be able to teach Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Yoga Philosophy, Meditation, Pranayama, Yoga Therapy and Anatomy.
